Known Issues

Messenger Load Issue: Some users may be experiencing problems loading messenger. If you are having trouble loading messenger, try clearing your browser cache.

Firefox and Safari users:  Members using Firefox or Safari may experience difficulty in accessing group chat or initiating an IM (member may appear to be Ignored when initiating and IM).  Both instances can be resolved by signing out of gay.com, clearing your browser cache, closing your browser and relaunching gay.com.

Chat presence: Members may see their online status as Online (No Chat) even when their messenger is open. This is a bug that we are working to fix.

If a member is shown as Online (No chat) when their messenger window is open, they can resolve this by changing their online status within the messenger window to any status other than Offline (Invisible) and then refreshing the main gay.com window. Their online status should then be updated.

Pop-up Blockers: Users must enable gay.com to allow pop-ups to be able to use the full Communication Suite, which includes Messenger, Group Chat, or IM. Some users are having difficulties turning off Pop-up Blockers. See our step by step Pop-up Blocker Help.

Site Performance: Some users may experience slow site performance or difficultly in loading the chat suite.  We know these are major issues and we are working quickly to resolve them.

Internet Explorer 6:  Members using IE6 may encounter general layout issues across the site.  gay.com is best accessed using Firefox 3 or Internet Explorer 7 and members are encouraged to upgrade their browser.

AOL Users Alert: We have many reports of many AOL users (specifically version 9.0.1 and possibly others) having trouble logging onto the site or getting into chat. We believe that this is due to conflict with Internet Explorer (both versions 6 and 7) and AOL service accessing the site. We have been able to get many of our AOL users back online by having them use Firefox instead. Firefox can be downloaded here http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

Who’s Online:  The number of members listed as online for each city may be higher than the actual number of search results returned.

Profiles:  Profile fields have been updated – some categories were added while others were removed (including some free-form text fields).  As a result some profile data may not exist.  It is recommended that members review their profile and update it if necessary.

Profile Editing: Some older profiles do not have an age or location set. If a member has a profile with no age or location set, they must first enter in an age and location before they can edit other profile fields.

Chat:  Changes to a member’s primary photo may not refresh within Chat and therefore may be out of synch with their primary photo in their profile and mini profile.  Closing and re-launching Messenger refreshes the primary photo.

Profile Photos:  Some profile photos are not displaying properly but rather show a blank image mask. See example of issue here. To resolve, it is recommended members delete any affected photos from their own profiles and upload them again to their gay.com profile.

Local Scene:  When a signed-in member goes to Local Scene the Local Scene pages display as though the member is not signed into gay.com.  However, when the member navigates away from Local Scene the rest of the site pages display properly.  Also, when a member signs into gay.com from Local Scene the member is being routed to the Homepage.

Premium Upgrade:  Occasionally when a member upgrades to Premium membership while in chat, the group chat window may not reconfigure to reflect the member’s Premium status.  Upon closing and re-launching Messenger the chat windows will display correctly.

Channels:  Some article pages and photos may be unavailable.  Articles that are unavailable will route to a 404 Page Not Found page.  Members may also find some inconsistent behavior when adding or deleting items from a Gift Guide.

Cancelled Members:  When a member account is cancelled, the member should be taken off all lists (Friend list, Hot List, etc.).  In some instances a cancel member may continue to display on a member’s List page.

Member Registration:  During the registration process a new member should be taken to the gay.com Welcome page (signed into the site) after confirming their email address.  On occasion new members are taken to the gay.com Homepage (not signed into the site) after confirming their email address.
